How to create a CHAIN REACTION of good habits!
By now, all of us know that habits are MUCH better to strive for rather than goals.
But for habits to work and improve your life, you need to have several of them as all of them make you a little better. Read about it
here!
So, how do you create multiple good habits without taking pressure?
Well, the answer will surprise you
It is to start with just ONE.
A study done in 2012 by some researchers at Northwestern University found out that when people create one good habit and follow it consistently, they are more likely to start creating multiples of them with much less effort and cognizance.
So, here is how you can start with it. Start with the easiest/most motivating task for you(eg. Making your bed, writing one journal page, etc.). Eventually, you will start doing things around it and that will lead to forming more good habits.
In the words of Stanford professor BJ Fogg, “You can never change just one behavior. Our behaviors are interconnected, so when you change one behavior, other behaviors also shift.”
When multiple behaviors change, your image about yourself changes, and hence you are more likely to think of yourself who keeps everything clean because you started cleaning the bed and eventually you become tidier as a person.
Try this and tell me if it works for you!
