💵Finance Tip🏦
The markets are crashing, my portfolio is dripping red; will I ever make my money back?😭
That’s all of us right now, aren’t we? First, it was the crypto winter; and the stock market followed suit. Be it the US or Indian market, seems like everything is burning down and all the skeptics are riding the trail. Your parents might be going bonkers and talking about your money should have been in FD’s or saving’s account instead.
None of us know what we should do, do we? But, what if I tell you that everything is going to be fine. It’s a little hard to believe, right?
Well guess what, Morgan Housel has written about this exact thing in the Psychology of Money; the bible for the financially illiterate has an entire chapter on how pessimism is believed easily and the truth is generally an opposite picture.
The book talks about this concept in full length, but I am attaching an excerpt that I really like from it.
So, what do we learn from this?
It’s easy to be pessimistic, and even easier to lose our minds in times of adversity. But in the long run, markets prevail. If you have invested in an asset that you believe in, say an index mutual fund of the Nifty50(not a recommendation), and you believe your country will grow in the long run; bear runs like this should not affect you unless you haven’t followed the checklist before investing which is:
  1. A stable income source
  2. Life Insurance
  3. Health Insurance
  4. Emergency fund(ideally 6-12 months)
  5. Hard cash(5-10% of your net worth)
